History of NMCS

New Manna Christian School was founded in 1995 as a ministry of New Manna Baptist Church.  In the years since then, God has seen fit to richly bless the school in many different areas: academic improvement, numerical growth, and financial stability to name just a few.  But most importantly, God has blessed by allowing the graduates of New Manna Christian School to do great and mighty things for Him with their lives.

Several of our graduates have went on and received their college degree in Education and returned to teach at NMCS. What a blessing to have that kind of faithfulness and Godly Heritage. We are now seeing second generation students come through the school.

A Ministry of the Local Church

New Manna Christian School is a ministry of New Manna Baptist Church and belongs solely to the church. This means that the pastor of the church, Bro. Tony Shirley, is ultimately responsible for the school.  This also means that the principal, teachers, and other staff members of the school are, in reality, employees of the church.

Biblical Mandate

"Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it."  Prov. 22:6

We feel that since the Bible commands us to train each child “in the way he should go,” we as parents will be responsible for what we allow our children to be taught. In the past, the public school system could be trusted to properly train our children. However, the spread of evolutionary teaching, the removal of prayer and the Bible, and the continual infiltration of sin into that institution have led to the need for churches to take on the task of educating our children. New Manna Christian School was founded to meet this need by providing a quality education in a God-centered atmosphere.

 Missions Statement

Our mission is to partner with NMBC in assisting parents as they fulfill the biblical command to “train up a child…” by providing academic excellence and the spiritual guidance that will prepare each student to be a fruitful Christian and productive citizen in the 21st Century.

  Core Values

  • Obedience (I Samuel 15:22)

  • Wisdom (Proverbs 4:5-8)

  • Service (Mark 10:44)

  • Separation (II Corinthians 6:17)

  • Honesty (Psalms 15:1-2)

  • Balance (Proverbs 11:1)

Adding Virtue to Knowledge

New Manna Christian School (NMCS) was founded in 1995 as a ministry to the young people of New Manna Baptist Church and the citizens of McDowell and surrounding counties. For over twenty years, NMCS has served as a place for students to be educated in an environment that is conducive to their Christian growth.

Using mostly the A-Beka Book curriculum, NMCS strives to prepare students for life both academically and spiritually. We see ourselves as a tool for parents to use in order to fulfill the biblical command to "train up a child in the way he should go...." In an increasingly wicked world, many parents find the Christian school a pleasant alternative.

At New Manna, we want to provide the Christian school student with the complete school experience while pointing them toward Christ. We make available to them many of the same luxuries they would have in public school, but without the sinful environment. We have a full sports program for men and women including soccer, volleyball, baseball, basketball, and softball as well as other specialized extracurricular activities.

At New Manna, you will find:

  • A Quality Education Experience

New Manna Christian School operates on the philosophy that a Christian school should offer a higher quality of education than any other public or private educational facility.  With this mindset, New Manna strives to be the best school in McDowell County.

  • A Christian Family Atmosphere

With weekly chapel services, frequent youth choir trips, and Wednesday afternoon soul-winning, New Manna Christian School provides many opportunities for the students' spiritual development.

  • A Godly, Caring Faculty and Staff

Knowing that the teacher is the key to the classroom experience, the administration at New Manna Christian School has assembled a group of teachers who love the Lord and their students and who seek to guide their students in living for God.

  • A Christ-Centered Sports Program

"And whatsoever ye do, do it heartily, as to the Lord."  Sports at New Manna are seen as an exercise in godliness.  The students are encouraged to participate in an athletic program that will teach them how to play, win, and even lose for the glory of the Lord.
